![]() Reading about Hillary’s upbringing, professional experiences, and policy views in her own words prompted me to re-examine my disillusionment. During the years the Clintons lived in the White House, I’d become disillusioned by the various scandals that swirled around both of them. When she’d come to national and international attention in 1991 as the mould-breaking wife of presidential candidate Bill Clinton, I (then a 16-year-old) had admired her obvious intelligence and impressive feminist track record. However, Living History caused me to reflect on my own mixed feelings about Hillary. ![]() Because Hillary had been the First Lady immediately before Laura Bush, I believed I was merely doing due diligence and never imagined I’d end up writing a novel about Hillary herself. I read Living History, Hillary Clinton’s 2003 autobiography, back in 2006 as research for my novel American Wife, which was about a fictionalised Laura Bush. ![]()
